Dr.Najeeb Al Nauimi, a primary architect of Qatar's modern judicial structure and former Minister of Justice for the State of Qatar, is a prominent personality in the country and in the international legal arena. Having a vast experience strengthened by his degrees in law gained in Egypt and United Kingdom, he has represented the Govt of Qatar in the capacity of a Counsel and Agent in the International Court of Justice in various cases of domestic and international importance.
A prolific writer and an eloquent speaker on various international issues and legal matters, Dr. Najeeb Al Nauimi has authored and co-edited a variety of books on an assortment of topics. As a member of various international legal organizations and societies, he has been an active personality on the legal front on many international issues, including environmental causes. His expertise covers varied fields of International Law, Petroleum Law and Maritime Law, among others.
As an international human rights lawyer and an esteemed professor of Law, Dr. Najeeb has been at the forefront of judicial reforms and a catalyst of human rights developments in the country. He has played a pivotal role in upholding the issues of human rights violations in the region, and has been instrumental in the use of international human rights conventions and treaties to advance such issues in the country, as well as in the GCC region.
As a defender of human rights, Dr.Najeeb was closely associated with the protection of the rights of the detainees held in Guantanamo Bay. He was appointed as the Chairman of the Committee for the Defence of Detainees at Guantanamo and personally represented 93 of the detainees being held in the much-publicized US military prison. Dr.Najeeb also played an active role in defending the fundamental right of freedom of expression for the Qatari poet, Mohammed Rashid al-Ajami.
